The Fairfield, Connecticut, project involved the restoration of a 1964 mid-century modern home, perched atop a hill with breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound. Originally built by an heiress to a prominent department store chain in Bridgeport, this property had historical and architectural significance. Taking on the project became a labor of love, with Stephen Young Design managing a complete exterior and interior transformation. The scope of work included installing a new roof, reinforcing structural supports, updating the exterior cladding, and overhauling the electrical and plumbing systems. The goal was to preserve the essence of the home’s mid-century modern roots while ensuring it met contemporary standards of luxury and comfort.
In keeping with the home’s era, every design choice was carefully considered to honor its 1960s heritage. The interior furnishings and architectural updates were meticulously chosen to reflect mid-century modern aesthetics, capturing the spirit of the past while modernizing key elements for today’s living. Clean lines, iconic materials, and thoughtful details helped create a harmonious blend of history and functionality. The result was a beautifully restored masterpiece, seamlessly integrating modern amenities without compromising the timeless character that makes the home so unique.
